Battlefield 6 Release Date, Beta Content, and Full Gameplay Breakdown
Battlefield 6 release date confirmed with full beta details--maps, modes, weapons, new features, and EA's past loot box lawsuit in earlier Battlefield games.
Battlefield 6 is officially returning with a multi-phase open beta in August 2025, ahead of its scheduled full release on October 10, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the EA App. Battlefield Studios and Electronic Arts have confirmed that players will have access to four maps and four multiplayer modes during the open beta period, along with a selection of weapons, returning class roles, and new combat mechanics.
The Battlefield 6 beta will be conducted in three waves. Early access is available from August 7 to 8 for players who either signed up for Battlefield Labs before July 31 or claimed Twitch Drops by watching partnered streamers during the multiplayer reveal on July 31. The open beta will then be available to all players during two additional timeframes: August 9 to 10 and August 14 to 17.
Four maps are confirmed for the open beta: Siege of Cairo, Empire State, Liberation Peak, and Iberian Offensive. Siege of Cairo is set in Egypt’s capital and features urban combat with both tanks and infantry. Empire State is an infantry-only map located in Brooklyn, New York City. Liberation Peak is set in the mountainous terrain of Tajikistan and includes both tanks and infantry. Iberian Offensive takes place in Gibraltar and supports heavily armed infantry and tank engagements.
Four multiplayer modes will be playable during the open beta: Conquest, Breakthrough, Squad Deathmatch, and Domination. In Conquest, players capture and hold points across large maps, winning by depleting enemy reinforcement tickets or maintaining a ticket advantage. Breakthrough divides the map into sectors where attackers aim to capture zones and defenders attempt to prevent them. Squad Deathmatch is a team-based mode where squads compete to reach a kill target. Domination offers a smaller, faster-paced version of Conquest.
The game features a class system with four roles: Assault, Recon, Engineer, and Support. Assault can carry an extra primary weapon. Engineer can repair vehicles, equipment, and weapon placements. Recon can use laser designators to guide missiles. Support can provide healing, deploy cover, and use light machine guns.
The following weapons are confirmed for the beta:
- Assault Rifles: M417 A2, AK-205, M4A1
- SMGs: SGX, PW7A2
- LMGs: KTS100 MK8, L110
- DMRs: M39 EMR, SVK-8.6
- Sniper Rifle: M2010 ESR
- Shotgun: M87A1
- Pistol: P18
The beta also includes Battlefield Studios’ “Kinesthetic Combat System.” Confirmed features include the ability to drag and revive teammates, mount weapons on walls to stabilize recoil, peek around corners, and use a sledgehammer to break through destructible environments.
Battlefield 6 is set in the year 2027. The game’s narrative begins after a high-profile assassination leads several European countries to leave NATO. A private military organization called Pax Armata moves to fill the resulting power vacuum. Players take on the role of elite marines fighting across different Theatres of War. While a single-player campaign is confirmed, few additional details have been shared.
At full launch, Battlefield 6 will include nine maps. In addition to the four featured in the beta, these include:
- Operation Firestorm (from Battlefield 3)
- Saints Quarter (Gibraltar’s Old Town)
- New Sobek City (suburbs of Cairo)
- Mirak Valley (the largest map)
- Manhattan Bridge (New York City)
More multiplayer modes will also be available at launch, including Rush, Team Deathmatch, King of the Hill, Payload, and a new mode called Escalation. In Escalation, two teams compete to capture control points on a map. EA has not confirmed whether this list of modes is final.
Battlefield Portal, first introduced in Battlefield 2042, returns in Battlefield 6, where players can create custom maps and game modes using assets from across the series and share them as “Community Experiences.”
While Battlefield 6 has not been confirmed to include loot boxes or randomized rewards, EA, the publisher of the Battlefield franchise, was the subject of a class-action lawsuit filed in Canada in October 2020. The lawsuit alleged that Electronic Arts operated an “unlicensed, illegal gaming system” through loot boxes featured in multiple games released between 2008 and 2021. The list of games cited in the claim includes Battlefield 4, Battlefield Hardline, and Battlefield 1. The suit focused on the use of paid, randomized rewards, which the plaintiffs argued resemble gambling mechanics and are used without regulatory oversight. No allegations in that case were directed at Battlefield 6, which was not released at the time of the lawsuit.
