Battlefield 6 Release Date, Beta Content, and Full Gameplay Breakdown

Posted by Brandan Taylor on

Battlefield 6 is set to return with a multi-phase open beta in August 2025, leading up to its official launch on October 10, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the EA App. Electronic Arts and Battlefield Studios confirmed that the beta will feature four maps, four multiplayer modes, a curated arsenal of weapons, returning class roles, and fresh combat mechanics for players to test.

The Battlefield 6 beta will be conducted in three waves. Early access is available from August 7 to 8 for players who either signed up for Battlefield Labs before July 31 or claimed Twitch Drops by watching partnered streamers during the multiplayer reveal on July 31. The open beta will then be available to all players during two additional timeframes: August 9 to 10 and August 14 to 17.

Four maps are confirmed for the open beta: Siege of Cairo, Empire State, Liberation Peak, and Iberian Offensive. Siege of Cairo is set in Egypt’s capital and features urban combat with both tanks and infantry. Empire State is an infantry-only map located in Brooklyn, New York City. Liberation Peak is set in the mountainous terrain of Tajikistan and includes both tanks and infantry. Iberian Offensive takes place in Gibraltar and supports heavily armed infantry and tank engagements.

The open beta for Battlefield 6 will feature four core multiplayer modes: Conquest, Breakthrough, Squad Deathmatch, and Domination. In Conquest, teams fight to control strategic points across expansive maps, draining enemy reinforcement tickets or securing a lead to win. Breakthrough segments the battlefield into sectors, challenging attackers to capture zones while defenders hold the line. Squad Deathmatch pits small teams against each other in a race to reach a kill limit. Domination delivers a tighter, high-speed variant of Conquest focused on close-quarters action.

Battlefield 6 reintroduces an upgraded class system featuring four specialized roles: Assault, Recon, Engineer, and Support. Assault players wield two primary weapons for relentless frontline offense, while Engineers remain vital for repairing vehicles, equipment, and deployables. Recon units employ laser designators to lock targets and guide precision missile strikes, and Support troops deliver medical aid, deploy cover assets, and utilize LMGs to maintain suppressive fire.

The following weapons are confirmed for the beta:

  • Assault Rifles: M417 A2, AK-205, M4A1
  • SMGs: SGX, PW7A2
  • LMGs: KTS100 MK8, L110
  • DMRs: M39 EMR, SVK-8.6
  • Sniper Rifle: M2010 ESR
  • Shotgun: M87A1
  • Pistol: P18

The Battlefield 6 beta introduces players to Battlefield Studios’ new “Kinesthetic Combat System,” enhancing realism and tactical gameplay. Confirmed mechanics include dragging and reviving teammates under fire, mounting weapons on surfaces to reduce recoil, peeking from cover, and demolishing environments using a sledgehammer.

Set in the year 2027, Battlefield 6 begins with a geopolitical crisis: a high-profile assassination prompts several European nations to withdraw from NATO. In the resulting chaos, a powerful private military group, Pax Armata, rises to fill the void. Players step into the boots of elite marines operating across multiple global combat zones. While a single-player campaign is confirmed, further campaign details remain under wraps.

At full launch, Battlefield 6 will include nine maps. In addition to the four featured in the beta, these include:

  • Operation Firestorm (from Battlefield 3)
  • Saints Quarter (Gibraltar’s Old Town)
  • New Sobek City (suburbs of Cairo)
  • Mirak Valley (the largest map)
  • Manhattan Bridge (New York City)

More multiplayer modes will also be available at launch, including Rush, Team Deathmatch, King of the Hill, Payload, and a new mode called Escalation. In Escalation, two teams compete to capture control points on a map. EA has not confirmed whether this list of modes is final.

Battlefield Portal, first introduced in Battlefield 2042, returns in Battlefield 6, where players can create custom maps and game modes using assets from across the series and share them as “Community Experiences.”

While Battlefield 6 has not been confirmed to include loot boxes or randomized rewards, EA, the publisher of the Battlefield franchise, was the subject of a class-action lawsuit filed in Canada in October 2020.

The lawsuit claimed that Electronic Arts ran an “unlicensed, illegal gaming system” through loot boxes featured in several titles released between 2008 and 2021. Games cited in the filing included Battlefield 4, Battlefield Hardline, and Battlefield 1. The case centered on paid, randomized rewards that plaintiffs argued mirror gambling mechanics and lacked regulatory oversight. No claims in the lawsuit involved Battlefield 6, which had not yet been released at the time.
