Mortal Kombat 2 Movie Poster Shows Johnny Cage in Mission: Impossible Parody
Find out how the Mortal Kombat 2 movie poster features Johnny Cage in Uncaged Fury, a parody of Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible, starring Karl Urban.
On July 15, 2025, Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon posted a promotional image for Mortal Kombat 2 on X, featuring a fictional movie poster for Uncaged Fury, a fake film starring Johnny Cage that parodies the 1996 movie Mission: Impossible, originally starring Tom Cruise.
The Uncaged Fury poster copies the layout of the Mission: Impossible artwork, showing a silhouette of Johnny Cage in front of a world map and city skyline, using fonts from the 1995 game Mortal Kombat 3 to create a 1990s-style design.
In the post, Boon tagged the film’s producer, Todd Garner, and wrote, “I think I found the poster and an old DVD with the teaser trailer for the UNCAGED FURY movie!”

Johnny Cage, portrayed by Karl Urban, who is known for his roles in Dredd and The Boys, is a martial arts expert and movie star who, in the games, is tricked by the sorcerer Shang Tsung into entering the Mortal Kombat tournament to prove he doesn’t rely on special effects and to boost his public image.
As part of the Uncaged Fury parody, a fake IMDb page was also created for Johnny Cage, listing fictional titles such as Uncaged Fury, Hard to Cage, and The Gist of My Fist, with each entry receiving a rating of 6.9.
Mortal Kombat 2, scheduled to release in U.S. theaters on October 24, 2025, is a sequel to the 2021 film and the second installment in a planned trilogy.
Several cast members from the first movie are returning, which include:
- Lewis Tan as Cole Young

- Mehcad Brooks as Jax
- Chin Han as Shang Tsung
- Tadanobu Asano as Raiden
- Ludi Lin as Liu Kang
- Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion
- Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero / Noob Saibot

New cast members in Mortal Kombat 2 include:

Hiroyuki Sanada returns as Scorpion, and his character’s story is expected to continue through his connection to Cole Young, his descendant.
Four official stills have been released so far, featuring Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, and Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn.
Although a trailer has not yet been released, Boon’s mention of an “old DVD with the teaser trailer” may suggest one could arrive soon, with fans predicting San Diego Comic-Con 2025 as a likely event for the reveal, though this has not been confirmed.
At the same time, support for Mortal Kombat 1 is ending following the release of its definitive edition, as NetherRealm Studios announced that it is now focusing on its next project.
A separate release, the Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection, was also announced by NetherRealm and Digital Eclipse, featuring 10 classic arcade, handheld, and console games from the franchise’s early history, with rollback netcode and bonus content including archival footage and new interviews, similar to previous Digital Eclipse projects like Tetris Forever and Atari 50.
