Xbox Sale 2025: Buy One, Get One Free on Sports and Racing Games This May
Find out what's included in Xbox's May 2025 BOGO sale, featuring over 80 sports and racing games like MLB The Show and The Crew Motorfest.
Xbox has launched its latest digital sale for May 2025, offering a buy one, get one free promotion on more than 80 games and add-ons. This time, the focus is mostly on sports and racing titles, along with several downloadable content packs. The promotion works as expected—when users purchase two items, the one with the lower price is free.
The most prominent titles in the sale are from the MLB The Show series. Versions 22, 23, and the new 24 are all included, and so are premium editions like the Digital + Deluxe and MVP Edition of MLB The Show 24. However, the prices for these games have raised concerns. For example, MLB The Show 21 is listed at $69.99, or £59.99 in the UK, even though it originally dropped to $20.99 (£17.99) during a sale in November 2021. Since this title is now four years old, the price appears unusually high, especially when newer versions are also part of the sale.
Moving on to other sports games, MotoGP 21 and Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 are also included. Alongside them are lighter or arcade-style games like Smurfs Kart, Thunder Ray, and Rogue Flight. While not headline releases, these may appeal to players looking for unique or family-friendly gameplay.
The sale also includes several racing games. Most notable is The Crew Motorfest, which appears in three forms: the base game’s Deluxe Edition, the Year 1 Pass, and the newly released Year 2 Pass. Ubisoft recently added offline mode to The Crew 2, and this update makes the related Motorfest content more relevant. These passes give players access to bonus vehicles and challenges. The Year 2 Pass is still a recent release, which may make this part of the sale more worthwhile.
Other racing games include Turbo Golf Racing, a mix of golf and car combat; Riptide GP: Renegade, which is based on water racing, and SBK 22, a motorcycle racing simulation. These games round out the racing section of the sale and show Xbox’s focus on this genre for this event.
Looking at recent history, this is not the first time Xbox has hosted a buy one, get one sale this year. In fact, it’s the third such promotion in 2025 alone. But, when compared to the April 2025 sale—where Xbox offered a buy one, get four free deal on LEGO games—this May sale is less impressive. Many of the included games are not discounted from their usual prices and have been cheaper in earlier sales, which has led some players to say that this is one of Xbox’s weaker BOGOF sales so far.
One limitation is that the sale can only be viewed and accessed through Xbox consoles. This makes it less convenient for players who normally browse the store from other devices.
Outside of the sale, Xbox is also changing its Game Pass library. In May 2025, the service will lose five games. Among the titles leaving are Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons and Chants of Sennaar. There was some early confusion about which games were leaving, but Jurassic World Evolution 2, Little Kitty, Big City, and Planet of Lana are staying for now. On the other hand, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 joined the Game Pass lineup as a day-one release, giving subscribers access to a new dark fantasy title right at launch.
