GTA 6 Trailer 2 Blows the Doors Open on Rockstar's Most Ambitious World Yet
Explore everything shown in the GTA 6 second trailer--new characters, Leonida locations, and what to expect ahead of its 2026 release.
Grand Theft Auto 6 has officially been delayed until May 26, 2026. Fans had expected it to arrive in autumn 2025, but Rockstar Games announced the new date just days before releasing a second trailer. While the delay was disappointing, the new footage gave a much clearer picture of what the game will offer.
The trailer gives more details about the two main characters: Jason and Lucia. Jason is shown doing small jobs and driving around Vice City before meeting Lucia, as she gets out of prison. Rockstar confirmed Jason was once a troubled teenager who joined the military to escape his surroundings but returned to crime after coming home. Lucia, on the other hand, went to prison for protecting her family. The trailer shows them reuniting and starting to plan heists together.
From that point, the trailer moves into a series of quick scenes: robberies, high-speed chases, and romantic moments. One scene shows them riding a jet ski, while another has them relaxing with beers at their riverside property. Rockstar says the couple is trying to build a new life, but their plans fall apart after a job goes wrong and they end up involved in a larger conspiracy.
In addition to Jason and Lucia’s story, the trailer introduces several new characters. Among them are Raul Bautista, a bank robber; Brian Heder, a smuggler; and Real Dimez, a rap duo. These characters appear in short clips, each in different settings that reflect the game’s range of environments.
The trailer also confirms that the game takes place in Leonida, a fictional U.S. state based on Florida. The main city is Vice City, known from the 2002 game, but the map now includes more than just that. New locations were revealed, each with distinct traits.
Ambrosia is an industrial area with factories and smokestacks. With its wide roads, it looks like the place will be a haven for racing. The Leonida Keys are located south of Vice City and show a rich coastal area where people own yachts and speedboats. Grassrivers is a swamp region inspired by the Florida Everglades. The trailer shows alligators and muddy terrain, suggesting it will be dangerous to explore.
Mount Kalaga National Park is a mountainous area with hiking trails and off-road paths. Players will likely be able to bike, drive, or swim in its remote areas. Port Gellhorn is shown as a crime-heavy part of the state, filled with motels, nightclubs, and gangs. It appears to be an area for the drug trade.
Vice City itself has also changed. While it still has its bright lights and beach scenes, the trailer shows a more modern version set in 2025. It still features glamour and nightlife, but there’s also crime, poverty, and unrest. Rockstar seems to be portraying both the wealth and the problems of the region.
Although the trailer didn’t show gameplay, every scene was taken from a PlayStation 5. Fans noticed the impressive graphics, including reflections on water and glass, natural lighting, and fine details like sweat, dirt, and even condensation on bottles. In one scene, beer bottles on a table reflect light and images from the nearby TV, showing Rockstar’s attention to small details. The game may use ray tracing to improve lighting and shadows.
However, some performance issues were noticed. At around 1 minute 42 seconds, a man walks forward with a towel around his neck, and the frame rate drops slightly. Usually, trailers are edited to be smooth, so this stutter could mean the game is still being optimized.
The trailer did not mention anything about GTA 6’s Online Mode, but reports suggest it’s in development. Bloomberg stated in December 2024 that Rockstar is building an Online Mode designed to last for years, much like GTA Online. It’s still unclear if the mode will launch with the game or be delayed. GTA 5 Online launched weeks after the main game in 2013.
Also unknown is whether players can transfer characters, money, or vehicles from GTA 5’s Online Mode. A full transfer seems unlikely, but character migration with some bonuses could happen. Some fans hope Rockstar will add a storyline in GTA Online to explain the move from Los Santos to Leonida. For example, the FIB could catch your character, forcing them to escape to Vice City. Completing that arc might unlock a house or car in GTA 6 Online.
Rockstar has not announced the PC release date, but based on past launches, it will likely come at least a year after the console version. GTA 5 launched on PC nearly two years after consoles. Red Dead Redemption 2 also arrived late and ran poorly on many systems. If GTA 6 follows that pattern, it may be hard to run on older graphics cards. Even the RTX 4070 Super might struggle at high settings. Current-generation consoles are expected to run the game at 30 frames per second with some ray tracing.
