Total War developers announce franchise changes
Apology issued, price of games to be reduced and DLC plans redesigned
Developers Creative Assembly, and Total War leadership team, have issued a statement and an apology for their handling of the most recent games, and announced planned changes for the franchise.
In a new blog post, the developers say that they've heard the community feedback regarding the quality of the most recent releases Total War: WARHAMMER III, and Total War: PHARAOH, and will be making changes going forward.
"We have listened to your feedback on Shadows of Change and we know that we failed to meet your expectations of what a DLC should be. To address that, we are enhancing our offer for everyone who purchased Shadows of Change with more content and a commitment to ensuring that we better meet your expectations going forward," said the company.
Elsewhere, all current owners of Total War: PHARAOH will get a partial refund through Steam. This is happening because the game's price will now be $39.99/€39.99/£29.99 going forward. The higher priced editions of the game - the Deluxe Edition, and Dynasty Edition - have been entirely removed from sale. The next update, and what was originally the first paid DLC, will release early in 2024 as a free update for everyone who owns the game.
The statement adds, "We again apologise for the missteps we’ve made. The mistakes of Total War are a shared responsibility by all the leaders of the franchise, and while it may not seem like it at times, we are listening. We really hope that the extra love we’re pouring into WARHAMMER III DLC, our several recent updates, and the changes for PHARAOH show our heartfelt commitment to these games and to you."
Total War is a series of strategy games developed by Creative Assembly for PC. They combine turn-based strategy and resource management with real-time tactical control of battles. As of April 2021, the series had sold over 36 million copies.
