Details revealed for Season 1 of Modern Warfare III

Five new weapons, four new maps, a new vest and more

Posted on

Activision and Sledgehammer Games have revealed what players can expect when the first season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III launches on December 6 at 9AM PT. The first season will include four new maps, three for the 6v6 multiplayer and one smaller one for the upcoming 2v2 gunfight mode. Two of the 6v6 maps, Meat and Greece, and the Training Facility 2v2 map, will be available at season launch, with the Rio map coming mid-season.

Five new weapons will be included in the first season, including three unlocked for free via battlepass progression and two via armory unlocks. New weapons include the Stormender (an EMP launcher), RAM-7 (assault rifle) and HRM-9 (SMG). There are also new aftermarket parts, including one underbarrel flamethrower compatible with several weapons. A new Assassin vest will allow players to remain hidden on the radar, even when stationary, and this also hides skulls from enemy kills. Two new killstreaks are being added, including a mosquito swarm and EMP.

Season 1 will bring with it a bunch of modes, some returning and some new. Gunfight returns and offers the same 2v2 action. All or Nothing gives players throwing knives and no ammo, and killing one player will activate the scavenger perk so they can collect ammo off dead bodies. Vortex is a mode coming mid-season, which features one player with the zombies wonder weapon. Infected and Headquarters will also return..

The zombies mode, DMZ, is also getting a slew of updates, including a new story act and a new wonder weapon. Special dark aether rifts offer a series of objectives to be completed in 30 minutes. Additional schematics are being added, including golden armor plates that automatically repair and a dog bone that activates the hell hound companion

Also included with season 1 is the new free-to-play Warzone experience that takes players to the Urzikstan map (featured in DMZ and the MWIII campaign). Warzone will also have Ashika Island and Vondel maps from the previous Warzone iteration. Launch modes include Battle Royale, Resurgence, and Plunder. Additional modes will be released across the first season, including some holiday themed events. More details on Warzone and other aspects of Season 1 can be found on the Call of Duty Blog.
