Counter-Strike 2 beta expanding
Competitive format will be changing to 24 rounds
Valve has announced a new round of invites to the closed beta of Counter-Strike 2, as well as new features coming to the shooter.
The developers have begun inviting more eligible players to the Limited Test. To be eligible for a CS2 Limited Test invite players must have CS:GO Prime status, an active official competitive matchmaking Skill Group, and play majority of their official matchmaking games in one of the regions where the Limited Test is available.
Also announced is a new CS Rating system. The CS Rating is a visible measurement of your Counter-Strike performance, and it will determine where you stand on global and regional leaderboards. Competitive mode in CS2 now features per-map Skill Groups, so players can master their favorite maps while learning others.
Another major change for CS2 will be the move to a maximum of 24 rounds in regulation time (with a 6 round overtime in case of a tie) for Premier, Competitive, and the Majors. The developers say they expect the structure and flow of matches to evolve over time as the community adapts. This is a change from the 30 round standard that's been in the game for decades.
CS2 will be a free upgrade to CS:GO (which is already free to play), marking the start a new era of Counter-Strike on Valve's Source 2 engine.
