Steam grossed an estimated $73.1 million USD during October
As per the Research & Analysis division of analyst firm Forecasting & Analyzing Digital Entertainment, LLC (FADE), sales via digital gaming destination Steam grossed an estimated $73.1 million USD during October.
Shooter/RPG 'Fallout: New Vegas' was the standout title during the month of October, becoming the fastest-selling new title of the year with 308,000 units sold during the month. The title took in a staggering $15.4 million USD in digital sales, retailing for $49.99 per unit. Steam recorded one of its best months of the year due to the efforts of the Steamworks title, as well as strong sales from other new titles.
Other new titles released during the month included Electronic Arts 'Medal of Honor' which sold 92,000 units between pre-orders sold prior to launch, and units during the month. At an estimated $59.99 per unit, the game grossed an estimated $3.9 million USD in digital sales from the platform. Multi-platform title 'Bloody Good Time' sold an estimated 21,000 units at $4.99 per unit. Approximately 29 titles launched via Steam during the month, but only the aforementioned three titles recorded over 10,000 units sold during the month via the network.
"With estimated revenues valuated at $2 billion dollars since launch, Steam still has more growth potential", said Benjamin Schlichter, Director of Research and Analysis at FADE.
Of note during the month is the consistent sales of Valve IP's. Left 4 Dead 2 was the 2nd best-selling game of the month, as the title received a discount during Halloween. Other Valve titles such as Counter-Strike and Half-Life 2 also sold very well, recording 114,000 units and 78,000 units sold, respectively.
Another recent Steamworks release, 'Civilization V', neared 300,000 units sold via Steam, selling an estimated 51,000 units during the October period.
