Pro Evolution Soccer to become eFootball

Long running sports series will switch to a free-to-play model and online focus

Posted on

Konami has announced that its long running soccer simulation series Pro Evolution Soccer / Winning Eleven will undergo a major shift, and become eFootball.

Free-to-play and completely rebuilt in Unreal Engine, eFootball will launch worldwide first on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC this fall, with iOS and Android to follow soon after. Soon after launch, players on any home console platform will be able to compete against each other, and mobile cross play will also be added in the future.

A new animation system called Motion Matching converts the vast range of movements that players make on the pitch into a series of animations, selecting the most accurate one in real-time. The system provides more than four times as many animations as before, and will be utilized across all consoles, including last-gen consoles, PCs and mobile.

eFootball will launch with exhibition matches and a selection of 9 clubs, including Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Corinthians, Flamengo, Juventus, Manchester United, River Plate and Sao Paolo. In the future, certain game modes will be sold as optional DLC, such as offline / career modes. There are plans for DLC Season Pass programs, and more.

More details on eFootball are promised later this summer.

The Pro Evolution Soccer series of games has been released every year since 1995.
