Microsoft to close Mixer streaming platform
Users and content creators can transition to Facebook Gaming
Microsoft has announced that it will be closing the Mixer streaming platform, and transitioning users over to their partner Facebook Gaming.
"It became clear that the time needed to grow our own livestreaming community to scale was out of measure with the vision and experiences we want to deliver to gamers now, so we’ve decided to close the operations side of Mixer and help the community transition to a new platform. To better serve our community’s needs, we’re teaming up with Facebook to enable the Mixer community to transition to Facebook Gaming," said the company in a statement.
Starting on July 22, all Mixer sites and apps will redirect users to Facebook Gaming. Although the Mixer community will be able to transition to Facebook Gaming, the innovative technology that powered the platform will stay with and live on across Microsoft.
Mixer fist launched on January 5, 2016 as Beam. The service was acquired by Microsoft in August 2016, after which it was renamed Mixer in 2017, and began to be integrated into Microsoft's Xbox division.
