Hellblade sells 500k copies
Developers offer breakdown on how the action adventure title performed
Developers Ninja Theory have announced details about the performance of their latest game, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice in the 3 months since launch.
Over 75k pre-orders were recorded across PC and PS4 before launch, and 250K units were sold in the first week at $29.99. In the 3 months following, over $13m in revenue was generated as 500k units sold, which puts the project beyond breakeven and into profit. About half the sales were on PC.
Tameem Antoniades, Co-founder and Chief Creative Ninja, commented: "The escalating stakes in the AAA retail publishing model has killed off countless independent studios like us, many smaller publishers, and is now straining even the largest of publishers. The more data we have for alternative business models, the more developers can take informed commercial and creative risks. For the benefit of our beloved medium, we'd like to encourage other developers to share their own data as well wherever possible."
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was released on PS4 and PC back in August.
