Hideo Kojima opens Kojima Productions
New independent studio formed, first game coming to PS4 and PC
Sony Computer Entertainment has announced that it has signed an agreement with Kojima Productions, a newly formed studio by the acclaimed game designer Hideo Kojima, to develop its first software title as a console exclusive to the PlayStation 4.
"I will be taking on a new challenge by establishing my own independent studio, and I am thrilled to be able to embark on this journey with PlayStation, who I have continued to work with all these past years," said Hideo Kojima.
Kojima signed the deal with Sony today (December 16th), just one day after his Konami contract expired. Sony is not investing in the studio, which remains wholly independent, while the financial terms of the agreement between the pair remain undisclosed.
The length of the PS4 exclusivity period prior to the PC release has not been disclosed. Nothing more is said of Kojima’s next game other than it will be “completely new” and will not be related to Metal Gear or Silent Hills, both of which are owned by Konami.
Kojima Productions is headquartered in Japan.
