Leaked GTA 6 Dev Footage Shows Early Lucia Animations and New Mechanics

Posted by Brandan Taylor on

Early in-development gameplay for Grand Theft Auto 6 has appeared online through demo reels shared by former Rockstar Games employees, providing direct insight into several animation tests and early features from the upcoming title. The footage surfaces during a period of sustained anticipation for the game, which is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, more than 12 years after the launch of GTA 5 and after Rockstar announced multiple delays, including a move from a previously planned May 26 release date.

One set of clips originated from a demo reel belonging to an unnamed former Rockstar employee. The reel included early gameplay showing a generic player character interacting with what appears to be a bike rental station, along with animations for mounting and dismounting a bicycle. Another part of the reel displayed animations resembling Lucia, identified in the reference as one of the game’s protagonists, hopping off the roof of a truck and landing on the ground. The animation suggested the possibility of players riding in the bed of pickup trucks. Not to mention, the reel included animations from Red Dead Redemption 2, as well as development footage from GTA 5 and Max Payne 3, indicating the creator had worked across multiple Rockstar projects.

A second leak appeared through a Vimeo demo reel posted by former Rockstar animator Benjamin Chue, who previously worked on GTA 4, GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption 2, Max Payne, and other Rockstar titles. The reel showed early mo-cap animation from GTA 6, including a clip of a character riding a bike and another showing what might be Lucia stepping out of the back of a pickup truck. The gameplay footage totaled roughly five seconds. After circulating online, the original video on Vimeo was removed, with no reason provided in the reference.

Further details referenced alongside the leaks outline features associated with GTA 6, including the return of bicycle rental shops from GTA 5, the potential to transport more players in pickup truck beds, and a setting centered on Vice City. Additional information describes features such as deeper interior spaces, activities including hunting and scuba diving, and a revamped cover system influenced by mechanics from Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA 5, and Max Payne 3. The referenced material also mentions a predominantly island-based map with over 700 shops. The two protagonists named in the reference are Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, with abilities compared to the Dead Eye mechanic from Red Dead Redemption 2. Insider reports cited in the source material state that dual-wielding firearms and crawling/prone movement are not included in the current design.

Context around the leaks includes the growing number of hoaxes involving AI-generated “footage,” which has contributed to skepticism among fans. However, the demo reels from former employees have been treated as legitimate within the references provided. Additionally, GTA 6 recently received its second “Most Anticipated Game” nomination from The Game Awards, after the game won the same award the previous year. This nomination came shortly after the announcement of the latest release delay.
