Dragon Ball FighterZ Update Released; New Goku Announced for 2026
Dragon Ball FighterZ, the game that many of us thought had finished its run, is back in the spotlight again. Arc System Works surprised everyone at EVO France 2025 with an announcement that felt like a blast from the past: Super Saiyan 4 Goku from Dragon Ball Daima is coming to the game in spring 2026.
Before the new Goku, we’re getting a major balance update on October 12. Every fighter in the roster is being adjusted, and Z-Reflect, the move that can turn a losing fight into a comeback if you time it perfectly, is getting reworked for more strategy. ArcSys hasn’t shared the patch notes yet, though. Last year’s release for PS5 and Series X/S already gave the game a second wind with rollback netcode, so hearing that more improvements are coming makes me believe the developers still care deeply about this project.
The new Super Saiyan 4 Goku (Daima) will be a fresh version different from the upcoming Dragon Ball Daima project, plus it’s the first new character in four years, since Android 21 (Lab Coat) dropped back in 2022. And this will be the first FighterZ addition since Akira Toriyama’s passing earlier this year, which gives it a weirdly emotional weight.
FighterZ might not be the most crazed fighting game anymore, but it still has a big draw – it’s been featured at nearly every EVO since 2018.
It’s also wild to think about how busy Arc System Works is right now. They’re still supporting Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising with new DLC characters, and they’re also teaming up with Marvel for Fighting Souls, which looks like a massive crossover fighter. With all that on their plate, it’s pretty amazing they still found time to roll the dice and give FighterZ a serious update.
The announcement also came with news of a big event next year called the Dragon Ball FighterZ Master Showdown, happening during Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026 in Los Angeles. And some of the best players are coming back for it: GO1, SonicFox, Wawa, Wade, and Yasha. I can’t tell if this is building up to a sequel or simply giving the current version a new chapter. There’s speculation floating around, especially with Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero on the horizon, but we’ll have to wait and see about that.
