Dispatch Sells One Million Copies in Ten Days Before Full Release

Posted by nutcrackr on

The narrative-focused superhero game Dispatch, developed by AdHoc Studio, has sold more than one million copies within ten days of its release. The milestone was confirmed by AdHoc Studio on Monday, November 3, 2025, through a post shared on Bluesky. In its announcement, the studio said that while the result was not “80 million copies in two days,” selling one million copies was still “pretty good.”

Dispatch was developed and published entirely by AdHoc Studio, an independent game developer founded in 2018. Several members of AdHoc previously worked at Telltale Games, the studio known for its narrative-driven titles, including The Wolf Among Us. AdHoc had initially partnered with the revived version of Telltale Games to work on The Wolf Among Us 2 before developing Dispatch as its first independent release.

The game launched on PlayStation 5 and Windows PC through Steam. It is not available on Xbox Series X|S or Nintendo Switch 2. Despite being released on only two platforms, Dispatch sold over one million copies within ten days of its debut.

Dispatch is described as a superhero workplace comedy that combines narrative storytelling with resource-management gameplay. Players take on the role of Robert Robertson, also known as Mecha Man, a retired superhero whose mech suit was destroyed in a climactic battle. After losing his ability to fight, Robert is reassigned to a desk job as a dispatcher. From his office, he manages a team of ex-supervillains who have been rehabilitated and now serve as reluctant heroes.

Gameplay in Dispatch is divided into two sections. The first section consists of cinematic, choice-based segments that use time-limited dialogue options and quick-time events, similar to earlier Telltale Games titles. The second section involves a dispatch system in which players assign heroes to respond to crimes across the city. Each hero has unique statistics and abilities. High-charisma heroes are effective in negotiation and de-escalation, while strength-focused heroes perform better in direct combat. During some missions, Robert can assist remotely through a hacking-based minigame that allows him to influence outcomes from his desk.

The game is being released episodically, with a total of eight episodes planned. Two new episodes are being launched each week until the full game is available. As of early November 2025, 6 episodes have been released.

According to AdHoc Studio, the episodic release format was chosen so that players could experience the story progressively as new content becomes available. The studio described the structure as a way to keep engagement consistent throughout the release window.

Reception to Dispatch has been highly positive. On Steam, the game holds a “Very Positive” rating, with 93 percent of players recommending it. Reviews have cited its writing, character development, and distinct approach to the superhero genre as notable strengths. The game has been recognized for focusing on the internal conflicts and daily routines of superheroes rather than large-scale battles.

Visuals from the game released by AdHoc Studio show cinematic character interactions, including one image of Robert and another character named Blonde Blazer in an elevator. Characters such as Invisigal have also drawn attention from players for their design and personality.
