Most Anticipated Games of 2022
As we move into 2022, gamers will be looking forward to a change in the status quo. Last year, hardware shortages made trying to find console hardware and graphics cards a problem. Hopefully those issues are resolved this year. As expected, a few games due for release last year were pushed into 2022. These type of delays are not new, but the pandemic is still having an impact on game quality and causing delays with many developers working from home. Maybe 2022 is the year when we see an uptick in gameplay quality and polish. With that inmind, we’ve taken a look into the future and picked out the 12 Most Anticipated Games of 2022, listed here in alphabetical order.

Let’s look back at how our predictions turned out in 2021 on the next page…
On this final page, we like to look back at how well our hopes played out over the last year. Let’s take a look at our most anticipated games for 2021 and how they turned out!
Back 4 Blood
80/100: “Back 4 Blood is an immensely fun multiplayer shooter, with an astonishingly replayable cooperative campaign full of intense periods and challenges that encourage teamwork. The competitive Swarm mode may not have the refined suspense of Left 4 Dead’s Versus mode, but it does have a few satisfying moments.”
Baldur’s Gate 3
The game didn’t make it to a 2021 launch window.
Deathloop
80/100: “Deathloop is able to break the cycle of repetitive AI encounters and uneven performance thanks to an interesting story, strong characters, and enticing exploration.”
Far Cry 6
78/100: “Far Cry 6 is another well-crafted entry in Ubisoft’s long-running franchise. While the framework of the series is still in place, the title introduces welcome changes such as a real protagonist and extensive customization that make this an improvement on its predecessor.”
Gotham Knights
The game didn’t make it to a 2021 launch window.
Halo Infinite (campaign)
74/100: “Halo Infinite offers a brief campaign with uneven writing, and a functional but safe implementation of the new open-world levels. It’s still a great shooter with strong core mechanics that help carry the experience, but as multiplayer is now standalone and free, the value proposition of this full priced solo adventure is rather diluted.”
Horizon Forbidden West
The game didn’t make it to a 2021 launch window, and will be released in February 2022. The game once again appears on our list.
Monster Hunter Rise
71/100: “Monster Hunter Rise aims at old-school fans, those who were here before Monster Hunter World, and will be sure to enjoy themselves with this more compact entry. But for those who just recently came aboard the franchise, it will feel like a step down.”
Resident Evil Village
67/100: “Resident Evil Village is a decent entry into a franchise that continues to wildly swing back and forth, stumbling into success and failure, unsure of what it even wants to be.”
Returnal
83/100: “Returnal is a brutally tough but satisfying roguelike journey that is buoyed by its addictive combat and myriad of weapons, items and upgrades that ensure the journey doesn’t get stale. Its narrative is gripping and unsettling, its visual aesthetic is arresting and despite a high level of difficulty, it’s a damn joy to play.”
Twelve Minutes
60/100: “Twelve Minutes starts off strong and pulls you in with an intriguing premise and interesting gameplay loop but is let down by a poorly executed shock twist, finicky controls, and occasionally obtuse puzzle design.”
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2
The game didn’t make it to a 2021 launch window, and has been delayed indefinitely.
Thanks for reading, and we look forward to another exciting year, with many new games that are not even announced yet!
