CD Projekt RED has announced sales of 1.5 million copies of the Witcher franchise in 2011.
Sales of the PC version of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings totaled more than 1.1 million copies in the first seven months following the game's release. Copies downloaded via digital distribution channels accounted for approximately 24 percent of that total. The Witcher, which was the first game in the franchise and has been available since 2007, also shifting over 400 thousand copies during the year.
"We were all incredibly surprised by the number of copies sold. I have to admit, though, that the sales results for The Witcher, 5 years on from the game's premier, are remarkable. If anything, they prove that the content we put into our games ages well. I think that The Witcher will continue to generate buzz in the coming years," said Adam Badowski, head of the CD Projekt RED studio.
CD Projekt RED plans to release The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition for Xbox 360 and PC on the 17th of April this year.
