It all started when some employees at a game store warehouse managed to acquire a bundle of the 360 with Modern Warfare 2 days before it was actually meant to be released. The bundles were being sold on Craigslist for $800 each and IPCybercrime.com, a Dallas private investigation firm, was contacted by Activision Blizzard to stop it from falling into the wrong hands.
IPCybercrime.com then made contact with the thieves in order to buy the bundles and confirmed with them that they indeed stole the bundle from the retailers warehouse. IPCybercrime.com contacted the retailer to have them deal with the theft of property giving them the details.
A pirate was advertising on the piracy forum, xbox360iso.com. asking for donations so he could buy one of the bundles being sold above. He would then use the discs to create pirated copies and sell them. The pirater, 18 year old Christian Del Am, was also offering modding services for the 360 console with large collections of games built onto the hard drives. Contact was then made to the police department and an arrest was made.
Even though Activision Blizzard stopped this modder / piraterthe reality is that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on the 360 was already cracked and leaked to torrents over a week ago. They may have won the battle but the war it seems was already lost.
