Activision has admitted that Call of Duty Elite, the new online social service for the franchise, is having trouble scaling to meet demand. A new status page currently lists the service as intermittent.
At launch, the registration and login systems were crushed by gamers trying to enter the Elite site at the same time. While those issues have been resolved, servers are still struggling and so more are being added. Activision are also going to temporarily limit access to Elite services on both the console applications and website while additional capacity and scale is built.
To ensure that every premium member receives their full money’s worth, the publisher is extending the membership to Call of Duty Elite by 30 days at no additional cost.
Call of Duty Elite has been in beta for a few months with Call of Duty Black Ops, and fully went live with the release of Modern Warfare 3 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this week.
