Assassin's Creed 2 on the PC is all kinds of awesome, indeed much improved over the original.

MODERN WARFARE 2 PC: NO DEDICATED SERVERS OR SERVER LIST
Infinity Ward hits the PC gaming community with bad news. No Dedicated Servers, no Server List. It's console matchmaking for PC users.

Posted by nutcrackr on Oct 17, 2009 18:50 (145 days ago)

In a really suprising and incredibly disappointing way Infinity Ward has announced they have removed dedicated servers and server lists from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. This is in contrast to Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare and Call of Duty World at War which both featured dedicated servers and punkbuster anti cheat.

The game will be using the customly designed IW.NET to create matchmaking setup similar to the console setup. This has been created by Infinity Ward just for the PC version. Whether this means smaller player numbers remains to be seen although Rob Bowling assured us that player numbers wouldn't be a problem.

The game apparently uses STEAM and will be VAC secured in comparison to the punkbunster system used for the previous versions. This will be seperate to the IW.NET system.

"Making it much more accessible to the PC community as a whole" - Rob Bowling

This will also probably indicate that Mods will not be possible in the shape it is now and you will be at the mercy of what settings Infinity Ward allow you to change. Apparently though the PC version is coming on the 10th of November.

UPDATE

The Infinity Ward official forums have gone into meltdown. many new users have registrated to take up their agressive stance against the news. 360 guests currently viewing the forum...

Please note, due to the nature of many new users there is a lot of NSFW content being posted, you have been warned. The link to the first page of the dedicated server thread is clean at the moment but many other threads are not.

UPDATE 2

Forum threads are being deleted, including the one above which was 130 pages long at the time. Moderators are now cleaning up the forums, however long it takes.

I think it's too late for any changes to be made now. I doubt they would delay the game to just put in some dedicated server support. Maybe they'll through a huge patch in the works.

WOW, shaft!  Funny thing about this fall is the anti piracy focus coming from devs and publishers isn't focused on pc, the consoles and their launch day DLC BS are sharing in the outright ridiculous nature of this stuff.  I understand that infinity ward is trying to offer something new, but at the expense of standard fare i think that is a little much to swallow.  I'm stuck trying to play operation flashpoint without dedicated servres and this is just plain stupid for a full priced retail product.
